Venger's Decks TTRPG Items

Howdy!

what's new

It feels like the game's really really gathering a head of steam. A fair amount of folx across the multiverse have been snapping it up, there's premium video coverage of it en route, and the website continues to grow arms and legs.

On that last one, in case you haven't noticed already, there's now:

That's just the start of it. I've also been writing new two-page adventures and secret roll generators, part of getting the upgraded Patreon ready in the background, which has been a task and a half as I shift and reorganise the hundreds of map packs I've created over the years into the exclusive new vault.

So it's been a monumental effort, but hopefully you'll find it all worthwhile. And on that note, have you played a session with the game yet? Let me know how you got on. I've loved hearing tales of all your ventures so far as the game gets going!

More to come!

Venger's Decks TTRPG Items

ttrpg reflections

You know, I've been sitting here looking at all the stuff I've made over the past six years laid out in front of me. Aside from all the hundreds of fantasy and futuristic maps I've slung out into the wild, there have been loot decks, NPC decks, encounter decks, dungeon map tile sets, critical hit decks, a map book, a guide book, and yeah, it's kind of a strange feeling, honestly.

When I started, I was just making encounters and maps. One at a time. Figuring out what other GMs might need at the table, what I'd want in front of me in a session, what would actually get used rather than just sit in a drawer or a shelf somewhere. It was small. It felt small, anyway.

I didn't sit down six years ago and say, right, I'm going to build a whole catalogue of TTRPG gear and eventually tie it all together with my own game system. That's not how it went. It was more like one thing led to another led to another, and each thing I made taught me something new that fed into the next. The maps informed the encounter decks. The encounter decks, and all the feedback I picked up over the years, made me think harder about what actually happens in a moment of chaos at the table. That thinking eventually became my guide book last year, and then The Chaos TTRPG.

And now here we are. The game is the thing everything else kind of orbits around.

venger's decks

If you've not had a proper look at everything over at vengersdecks.com, hopefully you'll find that it's worth a rummage. All the physical decks, loot, NPCs, encounters, crits, dungeon map tiles, etc., are system-agnostic, which means they'll work alongside whatever game you're running, not just The Chaos. I built them that way on purpose, because I always wanted them to be useful in the broadest possible sense. Something you can grab from the shelf and throw onto any table.

But for those running The Chaos, they slot in nicely. The encounter decks and the loot decks in particular feel like natural companions to a game built around randomness, around letting the chaos lead you somewhere unexpected.

so what's the point of this ramble?

Honestly? Now that my little game's out there, I just felt like marking the moment. Six years is a pretty long time to be making things. There have been stretches where momentum was hard to find, where I wasn't sure what the next thing should be or whether the stuff I'd already made was finding the people it was meant for.

But The Chaos has given all of it a home. A context. A reason to exist that's a bit bigger than any one deck or product on its own. It's the game I always wanted to build, borne from everything I've learned since my halcyon days gaming all the way back in the 1980s.

And there's a lot more to come. More content, more tools, more stuff I'll tell you about as it all takes shape. If you want to be in on that as it unfolds, you know where I am. Thanks for being here, and as always, happy rollin'.

thanks so much!

for your support & inspiration

Please share the game with all & sundry, spreading The Chaos into every dark corner its flickering torches haven't quite reached. My aim is for the game to grow like an invigorating fungus on the minds of the OSR community and beyond, and I can't thank you enough for being a part of this.

Meantime, if you've not yet joined The Realm discord, here's the link for that, and I look forward to seeing you there! Be sure to let me know any suggestions you have about what to include in the next issue, or about the game itself, and enjoy the rest of your day. :)

Best,

Scott
