Cook the Chaos | Time For The Chaos

So hopefully you feel like you’ll have enough to run with out there in the blank wilderness. Pull everything you and the player(s) have rolled up, begin with the introduction, turn it over to the player(s) to decide what they want to do and where to go, reminding them that The Realm will change based on what they end up doing, that not every threat needs to unfurl into a fight, that fights might be too hot to handle anyway, and that if they’re careful, given that everything, not just their character(s), will look every day to survive the perils of The Realm, finding another route should always be an option.

Invite the character(s) to explore, to share what they find and learn, and to set and remember their objectives for the session. And in every situation that arises, aim to keep things simple, to hold the game’s rules lightly in the hand, with fun and visuals and narratives, and yes, with chaos, more firmly as the priority.

This game holds everything you need to run sessions in The Realm, but it’s not exhaustive. Absolutely feel free to sprinkle in and follow through on rumours of realms beyond this one, on gates and portals into the spaces beneath or beyond or between, on anything and everything you all dream of mixing in. Use house rules, modules and systems from this or other games, your own random tables, whatever your imagination needs.

In taking this approach, the chaos unfurled will reveal tales and moments that you’ll never forget. The less you prepare in advance, the more you’ll be able to stretch out, close your eyes, and feel on your face with exhilarating joy the breeze of the unknown. So now...pick a rumour or job, fire through the tables, make sure everyone’s ready to roll, and take your first steps into The Realm.

what's next?

Ok, so from here you might want to...

...move onto rumours and jobs

...return to the cook the chaos intro

...or double check the rules of the chaos

Remember, though, that you can navigate anywhere on the site using the menus on each page, and if you ever get lost, roll 1d6 and we'll see what perils you encounter!
