Souls of the Chaos | Gear
Now you know a bit about your character, let’s gear them up. Got your 3d6 x 5 coins yet? Great. Now, you can’t carry it all. You’ve got a number of gear slots, including weapons & armour, but not your backpack, equal to your max health + 4. So maybe leave room for stuff you find during the game, and share out, drop, or stash what you can’t carry & pool everyone’s cash to afford what you need.
You can employ hirelings to carry stuff, but they’re people, so it makes sense they’d cost daily more than any gear, right? Also, try to personalise your gear to make it your own.
Wanna start with some free gear? Head to Krenva’s
There’s a whole swathe of gear you can pick up, but to get you started quickly, the wily ol’ Krenva can take you out to the back of his grimy alleyway shoppe in The Town and pass you a free pack with the basics. You might wonder, of course, why he’s so curiously giving you all this for nothing, but that’s maybe an issue for another day. What he hands to you includes your pack | bedroll | clothes & boots | rations (3 days) | rope (25') or tinderbox | torches (3) | waterskin. 100% free, no questions asked. This pack takes up 6 gear slots.
For your chosen...thing, you can also start with a 1 slot...
Brawler - woodcarving kit (knife, gouge, small saw)
Weaver - spell book or a bunch of arcane scrolls
Empath - holy or spiritual symbol or item
Rascal - tool kit (small file, lockpicks, small mirror on a metal handle, pair of pliers)
Tough Nut - mess kit (cups, cutlery, pans, utensils, herbs)
Charmer - disguise kit (props, cosmetics, hair dye, scissors)
money’s known as ‘coins’. to improv item costs, 1-20 coins = cheap, 21-50 = pricey, 51+ = how the heck can you afford that?!!

Bear in mind that if you’re picking up any gear during the game, even if you’re not short of coins it might be fun to try and steal it, or you can try to trade or to haggle down the price for anything you like the look of...but yeah, be mindful of who you steal from or trade or haggle with!
And again, remember that if you’ve not got enough gear slots or coins, work as a party & share the load.

These are all mere suggestions. You’ll be sure to find anything and everything wherever you travel. Prices aren’t set. They can be haggled. Their worth is not in their initial price tag, but rather in what you’d be prepared to pay for it, or what those possessing it might wish to trade or sell it for. So think carefully about what you need, suggest to the GM what you’re looking for, and who knows if it crops up!
what's next?
Sure you've got enough gear? Ok then, so next up, there may be trouble ahead, so make sure you've left enough coins to pick up some hittin' tools!
...or return to the start of souls of the chaos.
