Welcome To The Chaos | Introduction

thanks, and let's get started...

Thanks so much for tapping into this game!

All being well, you will now begin to spread chaos, to inject deeply into minds & memories an experience so wildly immersive that it will intoxicate the soul. Well, that, or you’ll just have a decent time and fancy playing it again!

The text on this site has everything you’ll need to create a fantasy tabletop roleplaying game one-shot session, or even the kernels of a longer campaign if that’s what’ll float your boat. The rules of the game are basic. You can play it solo or with others. Whoever’s playing should be able to pick up the rules quickly. Using random tables or decks, you should find that the mechanics of the game won’t get in the way of narratives, explorations, and battles. In mere minutes, you’ll be able to whip up a scenario, to generate characters, and to kick off with gusto onto the crumbling path towards chaos.

That’s the plan, anyway. Take a look through the rules and get familiar with them. It’s recommended, however, that you see these rules as nothing more than a framework, using or adjusting or even chucking them out according to your needs and to those of your gaming group. As with other old school inspired games like this, it’s more about consistent rulings than about rules, so in the moment if something makes sense or not, go with what feels right, make a ruling, and move on.

happy rollin'

This game assumes that you know what a tabletop roleplaying game is, and that you’ve got some experience either playing or running games like this. But don’t sweat it. If you don’t have that experience, hopefully you’ll find that it’s not too difficult to pick up and run with the game, and there’s a whole community of helpful souls out there you can tap into to pick up what you need and make sense of it all.

If you’d like some help mastering the absolute chaos a game like this lays out, where pretty much nothing is pre-planned and most things are subject to rolls on random tables and the like, you might want to check out Venger’s Guide to Mastering Chaos At The Table, which aside from other things helps you structure random scenarios and game sessions with little preparation, and gets you more comfortable with not knowing what’s about to happen in your game from one moment to the next.

You can use this game with your other Venger’s Decks or with your own random tables, seeding even more chaos with additional loot, NPCs, critical hits & misses, random scenarios, and more. If you haven't done so already, have a browse through here at thechaosttrpg.com for random generators, decks, and more!

So have an awesome time with the game, share your experience with others, and even blend the mechanics or tables you find in this game with any other game systems or modules you go on to play. Thanks again, and happy rollin’.
